YouTube and Shopee have launched a fresh online shopping service in Indonesia. This project seeks to grow throughout Southeast Asia due to rising competition from TikTok’s e-commerce goals. Through this partnership, users can now buy products they view on YouTube directly via links to Shopee, which is a subsidiary of Sea Ltd. This service, currently offered in South Korea and the U.S., will soon be introduced in Thailand and Vietnam.
The collaboration is taking place as the e-commerce sector in Southeast Asia is expanding quickly, particularly in Indonesia where there is a high demand for online shopping. YouTube and Shopee from Alphabet Inc. will be in competition with TikTok, which has reinforced its local influence with its own e-commerce platform named TikTok Shop. By 2023, TikTok saw substantial expansion and emerged as the second-largest e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia, closely trailing behind Shopee.
